Vegetated or green roofs offer multiple benefits to urban areas. They manage stormwater, reduce energy demand, mitigate urban heat island, improve air quality and enhance biodiversity. The City of Toronto adopted the Green Roof Bylaw in 2010 and became the first city in North America to require green roofs on most new buildings, paving the way to become one of the most sustainable, livable and resilient cities in North America.
In this webinar, we will first look at the various green roof types, their market shares and growth, and their benefits and contributions to LEED. We will examine individual components, learn about their functions and select ion criteria, and how to put them together into engineered systems that meet specific design intents. We will illustrate these concepts further through case studies. Finally, we will look at additional resources such as policies, incentives, standard and guidelines for green roofs.
